ALLEVILIVE - 2010
Fri 19th March 2010 - LONDON @ Queen Elizabeth Hall
Southbank Centre
A great return in London after one year. Giovanni Allevi is one of the major uncontaminated composers and pianists of the present-day international scene. His compositions outline the precepts of a new Contemporary Classical Music through an educated and emotional language that distances itself from the dodecaphonic and minimalist experience to reaffirm a new rhythmic and melodic European intensity. For his intellectual engagement in redefining the boundaries of a new Italian-origin European Contemporary Classical Music, Giovanni is praised by the President of the Republic of Italy Giorgio Napolitano, the Pope Benedict XVI and many cultural and artistic celebrities.

LIVE @ UNION CHAPEL
Tonight, 27th March, Giovanni Allevi will perform his composition live @ Union Chapel at 9pm.
“ALLEVILIVE - Piano Solo 2009” hit the ground running in Switzerland with three sold-out concerts (Zurich March 16th, Lausanne March 19th and Lugano 21st March). Success of this kind, however, is nothing new to GIOVANNI ALLEVI. Since his debut show at the Blue Note in New York in 2005, the US public has embraced him with open arms, enthusiastically giving him the opportunity to display his talents in the world temple of jazz. This triumphant show won him the respect and admiration of the director Spike Lee, who chose one of his compositions as the soundtrack to an advert he made for BMW.
From that moment forth, his public and critical successes have multiplied, and in Italy alone, Giovanni Allevi has sold over 500,000 copies of his albums.
Recent show-stopping moments in Giovanni Allevi's international career include the concert on August 22nd 2008, on the occasion of the XXIX Edition of the Olympic Games in China, when Giovanni Allevi was called upon to conduct the 80-piece China Philharmonic Orchestra in the Auditorium of The Forbidden City in Beijing. ALLEVI'S 2008 closed with a bang, thanks to another important achievement: Giovanni Allevi was the youngest musician ever in the Italy's musical history to perform as both conductor and pianist at the "Christmas Concert", the traditional institutional concert organised by Italy's Senate in the awe-inspiring hall of Palazzo Madama in Rome. Broadcast live on Rai1 and in Eurovision, it was held in the presence of the President of the Italian Republic and the country's most prominent statesmen and women.
An eclectic character, a talented communicator, he obtained a diploma with top grades in Piano and Composition and graduated with honours from university having read philosophy, GIOVANNI ALLEVI takes to the stage wearing jeans, a sweatshirt and plimsolls. His unruly mane of bushy hair and his trembling voice, which bears witness to his sensitivity and trepidation, make him unique and genuinely adored by younger fans.
A chocoholic, he insists on eating a slice of his favourite Sacher cake before each live show: "It's something I do to comfort myself so as to diminish the tension that the stage and the piano brings to the fore every time," explains Giovanni.
Completing the collection of albums of original compositions which have scaled the very heights of the charts, we can now add “ALLEVILIVE”, a double CD recorded live during the Joy Tour 2007 which, if further proof were needed of this artist's extraordinary gifts, sold out all of its 120 dates.
The albums are released on the RCA label and distributed by Sony Music (licensed by Bollettino Edizioni Musicali). Allevi has also written two best-selling books: “La Musica in Testa” and “In Viaggio con la Strega”, both published by Rizzoli.

<!-- comments -->Corriere della Sera - Franchini
Impulsive and rebellious.
Tall, bony, curly-haired, his clothes creased but with a winning smile, Giovanni Allevi, having acquired a sudden but authentic level of fame, presented his latest album... He's a classical musician but, thanks to his age and cultural background, is able to accept all the sounds that accompany our way of living... There is a kind of impulsiveness and passion in his way of being an artist, there's a wilfulness and rebelliousness, a love for the piano's past and the desire to overturn traditions by opening up new paths. A huge success.

Corriere della Sera - Luzzatto Fegiz
At his starting line was the piano-playing virtuosity of Chopin, Bach, Beethoven and Ravel, then Giovanni Allevi arrived at a genre of music which is hugely expressive, his compositions cannot be compared to jazz, nor pop and not even to contemporary classical music. A no-man's land, from a critical point of view. So who is in a position to judge a "stateless" artist? Whoever's destiny it is to listen to a track from the piano album No Concept, in which the full and the void, sound and silence blend together naturally, amongst playfulness, surges, meditation, in a transversal narration which breaks the mould, although without inciting or experimentalism, as demonstrated by Ossessione. All in all, music which is easy to digest but at the same time of great nobility, energetic in its clarity and always distancing itself from any stereotype.
(Mario Luzzatto Fegiz)
...it seems that Allevi wants to free himself from the inevitable curse of the conservatory to completely liberate his creative imagination and improvisation... many things could be written about him, to the point at which choices must be made. Amid his formal qualities, one of the easiest to appreciate is the beauty of his touch and his phrasing, and the impossibility to categorise his songs, even amongst those who insist on the existence of "musics" rather than just music. Allevi plays as his emotions dictate, nothing more, nothing less.

Q.N. Il Giorno, La Nazione, Il Resto del Carlino
...the 13 mini-suites, the movements of his latest work, are a knowing fluxus of emotional writings which breathe in the cultured-popular air with a purity of absolute values... Giovanni is on the run, on a peak like a mountaineer, from the academic world and the standardisation of pop. A solo pianist at the commands who rejects the mathematical concepts of Western Music and the criminal calculation which bends musical language to meet the rules of the market...
(Marco Mangiarotti)
The most difficult aspect is to try to classify his music, neatly slot him into a genre. The easiest thing is to be bewitched by his impetuous, torrential yet refined style, on the right road to full maturity. He is a musician brimming with imagination and fervour, Giovanni Allevi... with a shining future to be explored on his keyboard; who, especially from the stage while in concert, reveals his resources and his meticulous application, in his search for technical perfection and a depth of comprehension...
(Enzo Gentile)
Troubled times are ahead for those who are born simple and who remain simple: for them and their good name. But those who are born complex, or rather human, and have their lives direct them towards the ideal, or rather, the mirage of a golden simplification of things, in and around them, well, they're perhaps worthy of some consideration. And this is the case with Giovanni Allevi, a pianist-composer born in Ascoli Piceno around 36 years ago, although he looks ten years younger, so smooth and politely optimistic is his face, his words slip off his tongue with natural ease, his way of confidently living his life free of existential obstacles and burdens... But what is this piano music? Let's put it like this: if it were a season it would be spring, if it were a dish it would be a light salad, if it were a colour it would be the azure that swirls around the domes of mosques...
(Enrico Cavallotti)
The maestro is acclaimed for his original style, a free fusion of classical, contemporary, pop and jazz. The idea of "No Concept" best represents his music, which shies away from standard Beethoven or Mozart repertoire and creates a style full of inspiration and improvisation. His modern and free spirit has drawn a new audience from rock music lovers...The concert hall was filled.
